East Borderland Community Housing Inc is the local not-for-profit community entity
which has taken responsibility for funding, constructing, and operating
the Elderly
Persons’ Housing (EPH) in the RM of Piney. The EPH part of the complex is estimated
to cost approximately $2 million.
East Borderland Phase III is an innovative and unique model that includes a full range of
housing options to serve the aging population within our small communities.
It will be composed of 12 personal care beds, 8 supportive housing units and 15
elderly person’s housing units.
Data indicates that these units would be fully utilized.
The participation of community and many organizations, including the Regional Health
Authority (RHA), Manitoba Health, and Manitoba Housing will be required.
Phase III will have a positive impact on the local economy:
- 20 new jobs- valued at $725,000 per year
- Housing Units will generate substantial property taxes to
the RM of Piney
- Seniors will remain in the area and will support services, business and social
activities.
- Employees & visiting professionals will use local services.
